"3 WISHES"

Boldfaced statements are parts of the original essay (or a subsequent reply) to which the respondent has directed his comments.

Italicized/emphasized comments prefaced by (R) are those of the respondent and are presented unedited.

My replies appear under the respondent's comments in blue text and are prefaced by my initials (MB).

(R) It's dangerous (and downright rude) to try and analyze people, but you seem to be able to handle it. Let me give it a whirl . . .
(MB) Not a problem. I'm certainly not immune to self-examination. Let's see what you've got...

(R) 1st wish- you don't think you're smart enough
(MB) Is anybody smart enough? I'd say that a "yes" answer would indicate a lack of desire for self-improvement. In my case, I've never lost the joy of discovery and will never feel that I've learned enough. This wish deals with my desire to be free from errant knowledge.

(R) 2nd wish - you are a shy person
(MB) True. I've always been somewhat of an introvert. However, this wish has more to do with the pleasure I get from music and the desire to be able to speak with and understand all people in their native tongues.

(R) 3rd wish - you're afraid of death
(MB) Nope. I'm not afraid of death. I just want my life to be free from anything that would interfere with my ability to enjoy it while I still have it.

(R) Am I right on any count? I doubt you'll answer "yes." Most people don't....
(MB) How about one "yes", one "maybe" and one "no"? Not bad.

(R) Question: Why not have mastery of all knowledge and history AS IT HAPPENED? History is by nature flawed because the humans recording it are flawed. The Bible was considered an historical text for centuries.....
(MB) That's the mastery that I want to have. As I said, my wish deals with my desire to be free from errant knowledge as well as a desire not to have any gaps in my knowledge.
