BOULDER GAMES NEWSLETTER 22 Feb 00, Page #1 of 2 Nürenberg, the world's largest game show, is over and new German games will soon start crossing the Atlantic. While we wait, we're stocking up on some fine games from Holland. Slow times for wargaming but GMT, Decision, Avalanche and GRD continue to hang in there producing the classic boxed wargame--actually, GMT seems to be thriving. In desktop publishing Ivy Street has a die-cutter, Simulations Workshop just shipped a grand new game, Rus': The Rise of Russia, 200 BC -AD 1584 , and Microgame Co-op continues to churn out good games for under ten bucks. In family type games Hasbro's "New Avalon Hill" produced its first game and has four more shipping now or soon. And, lastly, Advanced Squad Leader publisher Multi-Man announced that it will also support Avalon Hill's non- ASL games by publishing new games in the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series and update and reprint classics like Up Front and Panzerblitz . Congrats to Greg Schloesser on becoming the new president of The Strategy Gaming Society. Already he has set about improving the SGS newsletter, STRATEGIST , and instituting the Gamers' Choice Awards . http://pages.about.com/strategygames. On page 2 we have a little name-the-game contest. GERMAN GAMES GERMAN GAMES are board games from anywhere in Europe that emphasize clever design, great-looking components and fun. All of these games are English Editions or come with an English translation. Even if you buy your German games from our competitors, we save you money because they have to compete with us--just one example of many: Last month, before we had ISI in stock and our main competitor thought we would not be able to import it, they were charging $41.95 for it. Now, because we did manage to import it, you can buy it from them for $29.95! As this newsletter goes to press our price for OCEAN (formerly VISJES) is $49.80; Funagain's price is $74.95. But, our price will force them to lower their price by about $25 and those of you who paid $74.95 for it can get a refund. In the new SETTLERS ($23.90) variant, DIE STERNENFAHRER VON CATAN ($48.80), the components include 4 six inch Flash Gordon rockets with a small clear cup where different colored balls fall each time you turn the rocket over, lots of neat little plastic pieces to attach to the rockets (boosters, bombs, fame rings, etcetera) a large (22 x 33 inch) great-looking game board, trays, 3 decks of small cards, 1 deck of large cards, colorful charts and counters.
